Astigiano Outdoor

Hiking means opening to the outside world, steeping into an active form of meditation which stimulates all our senses, encourages exploring ourselves and those who are with us during our short trip into the warm and uncommon silence of the surrounding landscape.

The province of Asti, not far from Turin and easily reachable from Genua and Milan, houses a whole landscape heritage to be discovered: at the horizon the Langhe and Roero hills and, in the very heart of the province, the Monferrato area with its vineyards and woods, castles and villages perched on the hills, sanctuaries and Romanesque churches as far as the eye can see.   Being aware of this potential, the Province of Asti has zestfully applied for the public tender aimed at implementing of Action 1 of Measure 313 of Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 devised by the Piedmont Region. The purpose of this action is to enhance, in a synergetic and shared way,  sustainable tourism by promoting the enjoyment of the trails included in the regional trail network on foot, horseback or by bike. The local administrations involved, who we would like to thank for their cooperation during the preparatory phases that led to the release of this publication, fully understood the validity of this project also because of the increasing demand for a form of tourism in touch with nature, where it is possible to reconcile with the environment, traditions, and the “slow” way of living far from everyday haste.

In these pages there are 24 trails with maps of the territory with GPS tracks. All those who are interested in following the paths between Monferrato and the Langa of Asti are invited to take an opportunity that might turn out to be quite surprising. That is the chance to explore an extraordinary and diversified territory, characterised by the beauties of the wine-growing hills which come gently one after the other without interruption, or towards south, by wild forests thinning out towards the white gullies of the Langa in a close and suggestive landscape, animated by the taste for discovering the costumes and culture of our predecessors.
