In the beautiful square of the castle in Monastero Bormida the ancient tradition of the Polentone repeats itself as usual on the second Sunday of March. The event originated from propitiatory ceremonies is linked to the arrival of the so-called “magnin”, who tinned pots, and to Marquis Del Carretto’s generosity, who gave polenta, onion omelette and sausage to a group of starving tinkers; they thanked the village by giving an enormous copper pot as a present. This pot is used today for cooking the polenta, which is served to the public after the historical parade.
